This project for a young couple involved converting a kitchen, half-bath, laundry room, and two bedrooms in a 1950's ranch home into one large area for cooking, eating, and watching television. The contemporary design uses maple cabinets and solid walnut countertops. The island counter and cooking area backsplash are marble. For spatial interest and light, the ceiling over the cooking and sitting areas was raised, and skylights installed. Large new picture windows look out onto the wooded backyard.

The Sub Zero 642 in stainless steel is the centerpiece of the long cabinet wall. It divides the eating area from the cooking area and provides a visual break between the two sections of cabinetry. The split doors keep aisles clear, and provide ample storage.

The Wolf Dual Fuel 36 inch range anchors the cooking area in the compact work triangle. Its refined contemporary styling complements the minimal look of the cabinetry. The hood above provides professional quality ventilation without being visually overpowering.
